"All supplements are not the same"

Most of us take the time and effort to look after our health properly and understand the vital role that nutrition plays in the process. Fewer people though realise the extent to which food today (even organic produce) is depleted in nutrients.

To satisfy the food demands of an ever increasing population, practices such as intensive farming, indoor farming under artificial light, genetic modification and hydroponic farming, have all served to strip plant based foods of much of their nutritional content. The nutritional depletion of soil is a particularly serious concern. In 1992, the US Senate reported the following levels of nutrient depletion in soil:

North America - 85%
South America - 76%
Asia - 76%
Africa - 74%
Europe - 72%
Australia - 55%

It is also a matter of record that...

  • In 1988 The US Surgeon General concluded that 15 out of 21 deaths involved nutritional deficiencies
  • Food processing dramatically reduces the mineral content of the food. From 20% - 80%, depending on the processing method and food involved
  • As far back as1936, the USA Senate saw the growing problem of declining nutrition, and said in the 74th Congress, 2nd Session:- "The alarming fact is that foods, fruits, vegetables and grains, now being grown on millions of acres of land, no longer contain enough of certain minerals. No man of today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply his system with the minerals he requires for perfect health because his stomach isn't big enough to hold them".

For example, if we look at the trend in magnesium content in core fruit and vegetables over this period it shows a very worrying picture.

1936 1987
Old Raw Carrots 12.0 3.0
Cauliflower boiled unsalted 6.7 12.0
Celery 9.5 5.0
Old Potatoes 24.3 17.0
Peas 30.2 34.0
Lettuce 9.7 6.0
Onions 7.6 4.0
Tomatoes 11 7
Mushrooms 13.2 9

We can expect the position to have worsened in the intervening twenty years.

It is no surprise therefore that around 45% of the UK population take nutritional supplements to counter the severe depletion of nutrients in food (even organic) today. However, how many of us take the time to understand anything about the supplements we take and whether they are doing us any good at all.

There is growing concern that synthetic vitamins and minerals deliver very little nutritional benefit to the body and in fact, research suggests that they can do us harm. One recent report suggested that they can cause a 5% increase in mortality!

To understand what may be behind this, we have to realise that the vast majority of vitamin and mineral supplements (even those that claim to be 'natural' or 'organic') are pure chemicals, in an isolate molecular structure which is never found in nature. The body therefore is not able to take, absorb, transport or benefit from much of the potential nutritional value.

For the body to utilise vitamins and minerals properly, as in food, the nutrients are structured in a complex matrix of carrier proteins and amino acids, and this matrix is essential for transportation to the recipient cells, and then for the proper absorption through the cellular membrane.

Food-State supplements are renatured back into the essential matrix structure, making them appear as food to the body and optimising the potential benefit derived. It is this fundamental structural difference which makes Food-State supplements up to 14 times more effective than traditional supplements.

The Diagnostic Clinic (Tel 0207 009 4650) moved exclusively to food-state supplements last year for both therapeutic and preventative purposes, with amazing results. We wholeheartedly recommend you switch to Food-State supplements - and believe you will quickly notice the difference.
